Hal, I am so fearful of all the implications....Do we contact Congressman outside our district? How can we stop them? The system is so broken and the democrats are just lying down, they are pushing through bills with no roadblocks🙏🏻
Hi Nina. Thanks for jumping into the discussion! I think you raise a great question about contacting representatives that are outside of your state. From my limited experience with this, I'd say that it can still be worth doing. But since representatives are responsible to their own constituents, there's a chance that you won't get much of a response. Here are a few thoughts that might improve your odds: 1) If you’re from their state originally, do business there, or have family there, mention it. That gives your message more weight. 2) Senators often track public sentiment nationally on high-profile or controversial bills. A flood of calls/emails — even from out of state — can sometimes get their attention. And 3) If you know that there is a representative "on the fence", then if lots of people across the country contact them with the same focused message, it adds pressure and visibility. In the end, it's still "we the people"...so any time you raise your voice, you're doing your part to defend our democracy. And I'm all for it!
Thank you Hal. I appreciate your voice and insight....we cannot not sit silently. I will do the best I can to speak out. That is great information, I also have been emailing our Senators, that's another avenue.
I am not afraid, I cannot afford to be. I struggle with the hand wringing. If you love the idea of America, then fight for it. So many choose to sit back and wait to see what happens. Proactivity is the only solution. Find spaces where your voice can be heard. This is not about the Democrats and the wannabe fascsits, its about what does America stand for. Its about what version of America will prevail. As a Black woman in America, I am waiting to see what you guys come up with.
Hi Vivette! Your words cut straight to the heart of what’s at stake — and you’re absolutely right: this is not a time for hand-wringing or waiting. It's about showing up, speaking out, and making sure the best version of America prevails. Let’s keep pushing. Let’s not wait to see what happens — let’s all shape it together. We need YOUR voice too, not only as a Black woman, but as an American. I appreciate you!
